Avon MLM Review: Pyramid Scheme or Scam?

Today we will be reviewing a company called Avon. Is Avon a pyramid scheme or scam? Find out in this Avon MLM review.

You have probably heard about Avon already.

It is one of the biggest and most well-known MLMs in existence. Chances are you have encountered people trying to sell you Avon products, or recruiting you to join Avon.

That is why you found this Avon MLM review, right?

Avon is one of the MLMs that are totally pushing recruiting, which makes them particularly infamous.

As a disclaimer, I am not affiliated to Avon in any way, shape, or form.

You have probably been messaged by a friend or someone you haven’t talked to in years in social media, with the intention of trying to recruit you to an MLM.

What is an MLM anyway?

A multi-level marketing company resembles a pyramid scheme, in some ways. An MLM has products while a pyramid scheme doesn’t.

This is the most obvious difference, but as we go along with the review, you will be seeing more.

Remember that pyramid schemes are illegal, so I suggest that you do your own research on a company before thinking about being a part of it.

You wouldn’t want to be caught in something like that, wouldn’t you?

Look around for reviews about the company and its products. In-depth reviews like this Avon MLM review is also a good source of information.

In this Avon MLM review, I will be providing information about the company, its products, and how you can make money with it.

Hopefully this Avon MLM review can help you decide whether you want to sign up for the company or not.

My #1 Recommendation

What is Avon?

Avon is a multi-level marketing company founded by David McConnell in 1886.

That makes Avon more than 120 years old. Now that is just impressive for an MLM.

Avon is considered as the second-largest direct selling enterprise, with only Amway surpassing it.

The company has an estimated 6.4 million representatives, and is also the fourteenth-largest beauty company in the world.

Avon is currently owned by Natura and Co who acquired the company in January 2020.

This video can help you understand what Avon can offer.

I think this is the first time I saw an MLM promotion video with high production value.

I am genuinely impressed. Wait, “be your own boss”? I wonder where I heard that before…

Avon offers a wide variety items, which includes the following:

  • daily essentials
  • makeup
  • skincare products
  • bath & body products
  • hair care products
  • fragrance
  • jewelry
  • apparel
  • wellness products
  • men’s products
  • home products

The company is currently based in London, United Kingdom.

Is Avon a Pyramid Scheme?

Since Avon representatives earn money both by selling services and recruiting new members, then it is safe to say that Avon is not a pyramid scheme.

However, even if we are talking about one of the world’s biggest beauty brands, they still put a lot of emphasis on recruiting.

Even if their products and branding are already well-known, they still resort to recruitment for income.

The company may be well-known and legitimate, but I still advise against signing up for a company that heavily resembles a pyramid scheme. Save yourself from the hassle.

Pyramid scheme vs MLM

Like Usborne Books, LegalShield, and Trades of Hope, Avon is not a pyramid scheme.

No Income Disclosure

This is another company that doesn’t release proper income disclosure statements, leaving us nothing to work with.

I do not want to speculate, but it seems like Avon feels like they are already on the top, so they are not interested with releasing a proper income disclosure anymore.

Avon is already very well-known, with a very marketable branding.

I think that is the reason why they think just that alone is enough to convince people to join Avon or do business with them.

Nonetheless, since we have no real data, we have no clue what goes on with Avon reps.

Are they making money? Who knows.

My Favorite Program

Is Avon a Scam?

No, Avon is not a scam. However, the company does have quite some shady facts that they would not want you to know. Perhaps this video can help learn more about those.

We don’t really have the data to disprove claims about how little Avon reps make, so all we can do is find customer reviews and videos like above.

The company has been here for more than a hundred years, so maybe that could help assure you that Avon is worth joining?

Nah, I do not think so. Even if the company is indeed stable and established, I would not recommend joining Avon.

How to Make Money from Avon

There are only two ways to make money from Avon.

  1. Selling products for profit
  2. Recruiting members to get commissions from their sales

Unsurprisingly, you will have to pay for your initial inventory in order to start selling Avon products.

That’s no different from any MLMs out there.

How Does Avon Work?

Avon sells a wide variety of products.

Avon reps employ different techniques to sell their products.

Of course, there is still the typical direct sales tactic, which is primarily used. With the advancement of technology, the company has branched out into online sales.

Social media is now a widely used marketing technique by MLMs, so that explains why a lot of hunbots are messaging you.

Most of these hunbots are either strangers or someone whom you haven’t talked to in years.

There are quite a lot of MLMs in the beauty business, like Younique, Color Street, and Mary Kay.

These are only a few. Take note that there are probably thousands more, so you might find it difficult to do business.

Avon Lipstick: Avon’s flagship product

You have probably heard about Avon’s flagship product, the Avon lipstick. It is the company’s poster girl, in a way.

Avon MLM Review - Avon lipsticks

There are many kinds of lipsticks produced by Avon, so you can surely find one for your skin color and your needs.

Avon lipsticks have the following benefits:

  • Designed for every skintone
  • Moisturizes lips
  • Full coverage
  • Formulated with Vitamin E and other natural products

You can watch this video to know how Avon lipsticks are made.

How to Join Avon

To join Avon, you can click this link. They operate in many countries, so choose the country you are from.

You can also join Avon by getting in touch with any Avon rep.

If Avon operates in your country, you can go to an Avon business establishment instead to inquire about registration.

Avon has three starter kits to choose from.

  • Quick Starter Kit – $25 (worth $80 in value)
  • Advanced Starter Kit – $50 (worth $140 in value)
  • Premium Starter Kit – $100 (worth $400 in value)

These starter kits are surprisingly cheaper than most MLMs I have heard of.

However, since Avon is already quite a huge company, I think that is why they are not overpricing their products.

Things I Like in Avon

Established Company

Avon has been around for more than 120 years. It is more than the expected lifespan of an MLM of 1 to 3 years.

That is quite impressive, as Avon continues to be a stable company despite a lot of controversies and ups and downs.

However, I advise that you would not make this the only basis of you joining the company.

Quality Products

Avon products are quite high quality, which helped make them stay alive in the market.

I, for one, could attest for their quality. I have used Avon products before and I am honestly impressed by them.

You can watch this video for a review on Avon lipsticks.

Affordable Products

This is also a great selling point, as most people consider price to be the most important factor they consider when making purchases.

People do not want to easily part with their hard-earned money, so having affordable, quality products will help you sell products more easily.

Things I Dislike in Avon

Emphasis on Recruitment

As usual, Avon is a company that pushes recruitment so hard.

Despite having more than 6 million reps working to sell their products, they still push to recruit more.

Let’s just do the math here.

There are 6 million reps. Let’s say they recruit five people.

That will make a total of 30 million Avon reps. How will that remain sustainable?

I do not understand this mentality so I’d rather not try.

That is already way too many people. Avon is already successful so I think they should give up being an MLM.

Lots of Competitors

Despite being one of the top beauty companies, Avon still faces a lot of competition.

Many people would still choose other brands over Avon, as there are quite a lot of beauty brands popping out lately.

There’s Kylie Cosmetics, Fenty Beauty, other celebrity-owned beauty companies, other beauty MLMs, and beauty brands being sold in malls and shopping centers.

Beauty brands

Judging from how the world worships celebrities, people tend to flock to brands owned by celebrities or have celebrity collaborations.

Avon does that too, but it still depends on customers to choose which beauty brand they will buy.

Just saying though, if you sign up as an Avon rep, prepare for this challenge.

Avon Compensation Plan

You can view Avon’s Compensation Plan here.

To be honest, I am not quite sure how to properly explain this one.

The information provided is quite unclear, but I managed to get this information at least about how you can make money with Avon:

  1. Retail commission
  2. Sponsoring
  3. Generation bonus
  4. Leader bonus

I recommend that you watch this video to gain a better understanding of how Avon’s compensation plan works.

Final Verdict ? Avon

Avon has come quite a long way in terms of business. It seems like the company began in the right place at the right time.

Imagine if Avon just started their business today.

They will be drowning in a sea of beauty companies and would hardly be noticed, unless they do something to stand out.

That is how Avon began successful. They started at the right moment.

To this day, Avon is still a household name and I think they will continue to be successful if they adapt to technology and trends.

Before I end this Avon MLM review, think about this.

You, who aspires to be an Avon rep, are quite late to the game.

There are millions of Avon reps in the world. What do you plan to do to stand out and boost your sales?

Those who are successful are likely to be those in the higher ranks in Avon.

I think there will be quite a lot of challenges you will face if you choose to continue with this.

Also, think about all the competition you will face.

Not only will you have to compete on sales with other Avon reps, you are also competing against many brands that already exist.

Beauty brands have become quite creative lately and do what they can to stand out. As for you, well, unless you are a celebrity or an influencer, I do not think you can sell as much products as you want to.

My suggestion? Stay away from Avon and look for a better opportunity elsewhere.

That’s it for my Avon MLM review.

I do not recommend MLMs, but if you want to make money online, you should check out my #1 recommendation to make money online after reviewing 300+ MLM companies.
