Today, we are going to talk about Bob Wells and his net worth.
It is surprising how many niche communities exist on social media. There is a good chance that you will find people who enjoy the same stuff as you. It is the type of subcommunity that appeals to a lot of people. But it is very hard to do it on your own. But there are people who have managed to make a living doing videos about their experience.

That’s right. There are other prominent people named Bob Wells. If you have a very common name like that, there is a likelihood for multiple people with kind of name to be famous. Sure, there are other people with the first name Robert or the nickname Bob who are famous. But we are focusing on people who use the name Bob Wells professionally.
Most of the other prominent Bobs Wells do not really have very detailed information about them. Especially for the Bob Wells who are athletes. Living In A Van Down By Whatever Free Open Space Is Available
But back to the actual Bob Wells that this article is about.
If you have watched the Academy Award-nominated 2020 film “Nomadland,” you may already be familiar with Bob Wells. You may be thinking that Bob might be an actor. Partly because he had appeared in the film. But that’s not really the case.
While “Nomadland” does have a storyline and two lead actors, a lot of the cast in that film are actual people who spend their lives as van-dwellers or nomads. The film is actually based on a nonfiction book written by Jessica Bruder. One of the people that Jessica interviewed for the book was Bob Wells.
Bob first started living in a van around 1995. By that point, Bob had just been recently divorced. And he had a hard time trying to pay for the rent of his apartment while also paying child support. Bob’s job at the time was a cashier at a grocery store.
Soon after that point, Bob decided to buy a trailer and live in it. And he hasn’t really gone back ever since. He mentions in an interview he did with GQ that he had always enjoyed camping even before he started to become a van-dweller. But it probably took him a while to get used to it.

So Bob has been pretty much living the nomad live for almost thirty years at that point. Since he no longer has a permanent address, he can go from state to state and do a bit of work here and there. He no longer has to worry about paying rent anymore. But a lot of the things that often come with a fixed housing location is water, electricity and cooling.
There definitely seems to be a lot to get used to for anyone who plans to follow the van life. But it seems that a lot of people seems to have chosen to live the van life after the 2008 housing crisis in the United States. I guess people just disliked how the economic system was at that point so they were willing to uproot themselves and start living in a van.
Sometime in 2005, Bob Wells decided to start a website called cheaprvliving.com where he would provide tips and resources for how to live in a vehicle. It seemed the website did really well for him. I guess it lead to people to change their lifestyle and start living in van, especially during the housing crisis.
The success of the website lead to him to be interviewed and all that. It was until 2016 that he started his own YouTube channel. Prior to that, he had done videos with fellow nomad Jamie Dimon in a channel called Enigmatic Nomadics. Unfortunately they parted ways due to creative differences and all of that vides that Bob Wells did for that channel were no longer available.

Bob Wells Is Anywhere and Everywhere
Looking at the earliest videos on Bob’s YouTube channel, it’s amazing to see him rack up hundreds of thousands of views in a lot of them. That’s the great thing about a platform like YouTube sometimes. You just get to see stuff from other people that you would never have even know.
Aside from doing product reviews, he also does a lot of interviews with fellow nomads. It’s interesting to see how many people have decided to pursue this kind of lifestyle. A lot of people credit Bob Wells as being the reason why they decided to pursue being a nomad.
Who would have taught the internet is the one thing that everybody seems to have access to regardless of whether they live in a house in a fixed address or in a van parked on an open field. Technology is really good at helping people connect with those that share the same interests. Or those that want to learn about anything and everything.
I am amazed that there is an audience for these kinds of videos. But I should not have surprised about that. Anything topic can have an audience for it. It just takes a while to cultivate it.
It does seem that an interest for the nomadic lifestyle had a resurgence in large part of it being featured in Nomadland. I guess the early parts of the pandemic also played a part in building interest for it.

Considering that Bob Wells doesn’t really have any property outside from his van a few other vehicles, it’s estimated that he has a net worth of around $800,000.
He mentions in the GQ interview that he no is longer working seasonal jobs. His main source of income is through the pension he was earning through his previous job and social security. He still earns a decent income from the views of his YouTube channel.
An interesting thing about his income from his YouTube channel is that he puts it into a non-profit that he founded called the Home on Wheels Alliance. The name really says it all. It is devoted to helping people out who are in this specific community. They do a lot of programs to help fellow nomads get the opportunity to continue this lifestyle.
The non-profit does these annual events where they help beginners go through everything they need to start living the nomadic lifestyle. The event, known as the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous, happens every year.
