BookLeaf Publishing Review – Scam Or Legit?

Today, we are going to talk about BookLeaf Publishing. Is it legit? Find out more in this review.

For a lot of authors, seeing their works be published is one of the best feelings in the entire world. Having your work exist as something that people could actually have a copy of is often the dream. As easy as it is to publish your work onto the internet, there’s still nothing that could beat a physical copy of your own work.

Not everybody can be signed by a well-known publisher. It takes so much time and effort in order to make yourselves known to them. So most of the time, authors choose to upload their works onto these online platforms.

Often, a lot more authors choose to go through the self-publishing route in order for their works to exist as physical books. With so many different places offering some kind of self-publishing service, it is becoming easier for authors to sell copies of their own work on their own terms. One of the places I see offering these types of services is BookLeaf Publishing.

But is the services that they offer any good? How does it stand up to some of the other self-publishing companies that I’ve reviewed in the past? Well, we’re going to get to that in just a little bit.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way affiliated with Musavir Khurshid, Shivangi Verma and Bookleaf Publishing in any way. This is just an independent review. You are still free to do whatever you want. But I hope that this review shapes your opinion on whether or not you should try this self-publishing service out.

But before we get to the meat of the review…

BookLeaf Publishing Review: Quick Details

  • Name: BookLeaf Publishing
  • Founders: Musavir Khurshid and Shivangi Verma
  • Website: https://www.bookleafpub.com/
  • Socials: FacebookInstagramYouTube
  • Type: Done-for-you service
  • Niche: Self-publishing
  • Recommendation: I don’t highly recommend the services that Bookleaf Publishing provides. There are a number of other similar companies that offer these types of services. But, bare in mind, that self-publishing still requires a lot of work from you. While these types of services alleviate a lot of the pains of self-publishing your own work, it’s still dependent on how much work you’re willing to put into your book. You can’t expect to coast on the fact that there will be people helping you to put your book forward. Especially since you paid them to do that.

Who Are Musavir Khurshid and Shivangi Verma?

BookLeaf Publishing co-founder and CEO Musavir Khurshid

Musavir Khurshid and Shivangi Verma are the co-founders of BookLeaf Publishing, a company that offers publishing services for authors.

There isn’t really a ton of information that you could find about both of the co-founders online. Which is a bit surprising. When you search for Shivangi Verma online, you’re likely to find results for the Indian actress with the same name. But based on the official website for BookLeaf Publishing, the Shivangi Verma that co-founded the company is definitely not the Shivangi Verma that you’d likely find on search results.

Based on Shivangi’s LinkedIn profile, she had taken up a degree in English Literature from the Kirori Mal College at the University of Delhi. It seemed that she was really into English Lit, so much so that she was an event organizer for the Shakespeare Society of India, a group that promotes Shakespeare’s works in India.

As for Musavir, there’s even less information about him. It seems that he had taken up a degree in computer science but dropped out after two years. Shortly after he had dropped out, he decided to co-found BookLeaf Publishing with Shivangi. Despite him being the one who has a much more active presence on social media, there isn’t really any videos from him that tell you about his life.

What is BookLeaf Publishing?

Screenshot of the BookLeaf Publishing website

BookLeaf Publishing is a publishing company that offers services to authors that want to publish books on their own terms.

They pretty much have the same type of services that I have seen from Paper Raven Books or even Book Launchers. There are a total of three different packages that they offer to authors that want to have their worked published.

The Basic Package

The first is the basic package. This particular package costs $160 for the publication of a single title. Not a single copy of a book, mind you. But the publication of that specific book. All of the packages will be published into both a paperback and an ebook. It seems that BookLeaf Publishing doesn’t really offer any hardcover publishing. Because that process is a bit more expensive compared to a paperback version.

With the basic package, you are going to get a dedicated project manager who will be the one that you will be talking through each step of the process. The book will be mostly in your standard black and white print. But the cover will be in color. Though they mention that it will have a standard cover design, whatever that means.

It will also be formatted with the standard pagination and typesetting you would expect from a book. This package also includes a digital proof of your book as well as the inclusion of an ISBN, or international standard book number, and a barcode. It also includes global distribution in both paperback and ebook formats, along with unlimited inventory management.

The basic package also includes social media templates, annual sales reporting and payment of royalties per every book sold. It also includes support even after your book has been published.

The Premium Package

The second package that BookLeaf Publishing offers is the premium package. This particular package costs $320 for the publication single title. It has pretty much everything that is included in the basic package. But there are a few slight differences and some additional stuff.

Compared to the standard cover design in the basic package, the premium package offers a customized cover design. You also get editing and proofreading for up to 30,000 words. The premium package also includes five complimentary copies of your book. Aside from that, they will also produce an author interview for you that you can use to promote your book.

The Professional Package

The third package that BookLeaf Publishing offers is the professional package. This particular package costs $480 for the publication of a single title. It has everything included in the premium package with a few changes and additions.

With the professional package, you still get editing and proofreading of your work for up to 50,000 words. Aside from the customized cover design, they also include customized pagination and typesetting for your book. They also added the option to include up to 20 black and white illustrations.

This time around, you will get a total of ten complimentary copies of your book instead of the five in the premium package. There aren’t really any other additions besides the ones that have already been mentioned.

I do have to mention that the annual sales report will come in the form of a spreadsheet that anyone can view. (Well, as long as you know the ISBN for your book.)

Final Verdict – BookLeaf Publishing

Compared to some of the other self-publishing services that I have reviewed so far, BookLeaf Publishing definitely has one of the more affordable packages out there. I was surprised when I saw that they were also going to pay you royalties for every copy that get sold. So it’s kind of possible to recoup the money you invested into publishing your book.

That being said, it doesn’t really guarantee that you will be getting a lot of money in royalties from your work. From one of the sales reports that I saw, you’re only really getting a few dollars’ worth of royalties. It would take a while before you actually get to the point where you’ve earned back the money that you paid to get your book published.

It’s kind of a shame that they don’t offer any editing and proofreading in the basic package. You would expect that they would include it since those are two essential parts of the process. But it doesn’t really seem that the view the basic package tier worth the effort.
