Code Ninjas Review – Scam Or Legit?

Today, we are going to talk about Code Ninjas. Is it legit? Find out more in this review.

Franchising can be a good income opportunity for a lot of people, provided that they have adequate funding to license and run a franchise. It is no surprise that a lot of people tend to acquire a franchise for a certain type of business. You don’t really have to build a name for yourself and your business if you are running a franchise. People already know exactly what they are getting if they choose to go to a franchise of a fast food restaurant. Marketing plays a role in making sure that people are aware that there is a new brand of so-and-so near their area. But people will flock to well-known franchise because they know what to expect.

There are a lot of other types of businesses that people can franchise. I was actually surprised that there was a franchising opportunity for learning center for kids that teaches them how to code. There are a lot of opportunities in the tech industry for these kids when they grow up. But is franchising a learning center like Code Ninjas actually worth it for entrepreneurs? Or are you better off with tried and tested franchises? Well, we are going to find out later in this review.

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way affiliated with David Graham and Code Ninjas in any way. This is just an independent review. You are still free to do whatever you want. But I hope that this review shapes your opinion on whether or not you should try this franchising opportunity out.

But before we get to the meat of the review…

Code Ninjas Review: Quick Details

Who is David Graham?

Code Ninjas founder David Graham

David Graham is the founder of Code Ninjas.

There is not really a lot of information with regards to most of David’s early life. But based on what I could gather, David had been working as a software developer for about two decades or so. He saw that there were a lot of people who wanted to know how to code in order to become software developers like him. The problem was that there weren’t really a lot of places people could to learn about coding and software development.

So David decided to take matters into his own hands and start his own coding workshop called Coder Camps. That workshop of his worked surprisingly well. A lot of the people who enrolled in the workshop actually went on to have a career in coding and software development. Seeing how successful his workshops for adults are, a lot of parents that he knew or were enrolled in the workshop kept asking the same thing. Why isn’t this particular workshop available for kids?

The problem with that is that a lot of the concepts that are being taught in these workshops or other similar courses are a bit too difficult to translate into something kids could understand. David wanted this particular version of the workshop to be more appealing to kids. He didn’t want to make them feel like they were just going to school. It took a bit of work and research. But David settled on teaching kids how to build a video game that they could play. He also added the idea of giving these kids colored wristbands so that they and their parents know how much they were progressing in the workshop. And that was how Code Ninjas was born.

David Graham launched Code Ninjas in 2016. Within a few years, they had managed to expand the business to different areas and be something that other people could also run. David was at the helm of Code Ninjas for about five years. In 2021, Code Ninjas was acquired by an private investment firm called Eagle Merchant partners. David is currently serving as CEO for a few different companies that also offer a franchising opportunity.

My Favorite Program

What is Code Ninjas?

Logo for Code Ninjas

Code Ninjas is a learning center where kids can learn how to code and build their own video games. For entrepreneurs, they offer a chance to license a franchise of their learning center.

Before we talk about the franchising opportunities, let us first talk about the programs that Code Ninjas has to offer. The first program that we are going to talk about is their best-selling program called Code Ninjas Create. In this particular course, kids will be able to learn about block-based coding. Considering that all of the parts of this course are interactive, kids will be able to develop projects that involve that type of coding. This part of the course is pretty much for beginners, or those with white and yellow belts.

The intermediate part of the course is focused on writing code using JavaScript. This particular part of the Code Ninjas Create program is geared towards those with either an orange, green or blue belt. The final part of the course is focused on developing a video using the C# programming language and Unity. You will advance from a purple belt to a brown belt then to a red belt and the black belt.

The Code Ninjas Create program is targeted towards kids from the ages of 8 to 14. As for the pricing of the program, it is highly dependent on the branch that you are going to enroll at.

The other program that Code Ninjas offers is the Code Ninjas Jr program. This particular program is targeted towards kids from the ages of 5 to 7. In this particular course, kids will be able to learn how code and create their own games and stories using block-based coding. Aside from coding, the Code Ninjas Jr program also include lessons on robotics and circuitry. There are no color-coded levels that come with the Code Ninjas Jr program.

What About The Franchising Opportunity?

Breakdown of the cost for a Code Ninjas franchise

Now let’s talk about Code Ninjas’ franchising opportunity.

There’s not really any major differences when it comes to franchising compared to, let’s say, a fast food franchise or a gym franchise. You will have to schedule a call with their team in order to hash out any details about starting a franchise. Based on the estimates that they have available on their website, a single franchise can cost somewhere around $150,000 to $380,000.

There is a lot that comes with just signing up for a franchise with Code Ninjas. After you have done the initial call with their franchise development representative, you will then go through a due diligence process. They are basically going to check and review if you meet their financial and personal requirements. You will also be able to meet with some of the franchisees that they have in your immediate area.

Once they’ve deemed you eligible from franchising, you will then be going to their head office for something called Discovery Day. You will be meeting with the people who will be helping you throughout the process of building the franchise in your agreed upon location. You will need to sign their franchise agreement first before you go through the process of opening a Code Ninjas learning center. But they will be with you through every step of the process including training and opening.

Final Verdict –  Code Ninjas Review

There’s nothing really bad that I could say with regards to what Code Ninjas offer to people. I think it is great that they are teaching kids on basic coding concepts through interactive gameplay. It’s a shame that there’s not really any information with regards to pricing for the programs that they offer. But if I had to guess, it will cost at least $100 per course.

As for the franchising opportunity, I don’t highly recommend it to a lot of people. Running your own business franchise takes a lot of time and money. Even though you are franchising a recognizable brand, it does not guarantee that people with be flocking towards your business. It’s not even guaranteed that you will make it past the first few steps of the franchising process. Code Ninjas can choose not to continue meeting up with you if you don’t fit the criteria. That’s just part of the process.

You are investing a lot of money into the franchise. And it will probably take a long time before you manage to get a return on your investment.
