Despite having reviewed a number of different online training programs dedicated to stock and/or forex trading, I have not once gained any interest in it. I understand why people choose to become traders. But it’s never really interested me, personally. Maybe I’m just not the target audience? Am I boring? Probably…
Still, I enjoy taking my time to learn about all of these different online training programs. There’s something so fun at seeing how certain creators approach how they teach the basics of trading to their audience. Like, they are all working with the same amount of information. They’re using all of the same terms that most people who have had decades of experience in the industry say on a daily basis. But there are often those little details that make it personalized. And it’s often because of who created that particular program.
Most of the training programs that I have reviewed have been focused on either stock, forex or crypto trading. There’s probably a lower barrier of entry for those three options than most other ways that you could do so.
And there’s nothing wrong with that. I appreciate that there are a lot of training programs that you could choose from if you want to get into either of those three choices. Why make it harder for people to get into trading when you could make it easier, right?
So when I had heard about the Photon Trading Course, I was really curious to see how they approach teaching trading to their target audience. Like, what makes their forex trading course different from all of the other forex trading courses already out there? Is there a strategy that you could only get from them that’s not available elsewhere? That’s often the reason why I enjoy writing these reviews. You never really know what you’re going to get.

Who Is Matthew Donlevey?
Unfortunately, there is not a lot of information that you could find with regards to Matthew Donlevey. I tried to search for interviews that he may have done or videos from his YouTube channel where he kind of talks about himself. But there doesn’t seem to be anything that I could find that would give you an idea of who Matthew Donlevey is.
You may be wondering, “Why would I be interested in finding out who Matthew Donlevey? Why is it so important that you, the author, need information about his life?” The answer is simple, really. I just enjoy trying to tell the story of their lives in a way that gives you an insight on how they came across their path. Because, sometimes, there are those moments early in their lives that kind of planted the seeds to their current career. I don’t really care all that much talking about their personal lives, honestly. But I always try to give you an idea of what their struggles might’ve been growing up.
A lot of people who create their own online training programs would sometimes put their story on the About page of their website. They want to craft the narrative for themselves. Like, these are the details that those creators want you to know about them. Is it important that they do that? Not really. But they are selling themselves to the audience. And sometimes the audience like it when they have some kind of connection to the people who create these programs.
Judging from his LinkedIn profile, Matthew Donlevey had gotten a master’s degree in economics. He had a variety of jobs in his resume. It was really in 2016 when he had a career related to trading. He was a commodities trading analyst for an energy company. It seemed that he stayed within the energy sector for about two years before decided to become a financial trader. And that kind of lead him to start Photon Trading.

What Is Photon Trading?
Photon Trading is a company that Matthew Donlevey founded that’s focused on offering programs and services regarding foreign exchange trading.
There’s not really much else with regards to the offerings that Photon Trading has. It’s kind of bares bones if you look at it. You won’t really see a lot on the website except for content connected to his online training program. Honestly, I was expecting a lot more from the website. But it seems that Matthew decided to go the simple route. And I kind of appreciate it, in a way. It’s good to be straight to the point sometimes.
There are two main products that Photon Trading offers. The first one that we are going to talk about is his analysis service. Think of it as a mentorship program, but not really. Basically, you’re going to pay Matthew and his team at Photon Trading to analyze your trades and see how it stacks up to those made by the pros.
There’s not really much else to the service besides that. They will, for the most part, give you an idea on what you could improve on or where you could put your money in order to get more gains at the end of a trading session.
There are two subscription tiers available for the Photon Trading analysis service. You have the monthly subscription and the quarterly subscription. The monthly subscription costs you £49 a month while the quartlerly subscription costs you £125 every quarter. Both tiers give you access to the same amount of things. The only difference is how long you will be getting access to the service.
Now Let’s Talk About the Actual Photon Trading Course
The flagship program that Photon Trading offers is the Photon Trading Course. Though, it’s actually called the Proton Pro Mentorship program.
It’s pretty much your standard online training program. The gist of the program is that you are going to learn about the basics of foreign exchange trading as well as how to effectively use those skills to earn money. The Photon Trading Course is formally called the “Zero to Funded Trading Course.” It is a 12-part course where you will learn everything that you need to know when it comes to foreign exchange trading.
Judging from the overview of the course, there is actually a lot of things that you will be going to learn. Each module includes video lessons with varying lengths. Some of the video lessons are almost an hour long. The Photon Trading Course goes through the process of foreign exchange trading.
The first module is your introduction. It gives you an overview of what you might expect going into when you actually start your journey in foreign exchange training. That entire module is about three hours long.
The next module is about forex trading in general. This module will only take you about an hour to complete. Once you’re done, you’re moving onto risk management. Then you move onto brokerages and charting. The next few modules are going to take up a lot of your time. This is where it takes a few hours to complete the entire module.
The cost for the Proton Pro Mentorship program is either £199 a month, £497 every three months or £1488 every year. All of the subscription tiers included everything from the main Photo Trading Course as well as Photon Service, which are analysis sessions. You also get access to The Trading Floor, which is an exclusive Discord server. That is where you’re going to interact with your fellow members. You also get 24/7 support and weekly meetups.

Final Verdict – Photon Trading Course
The Photon Trading Course is one of the more well-thought-out online training programs / mentorship program that I have reviewed so far. A lot of the other training programs that I have reviewed sometimes felt a little cash grabby at times. But it does seem that Matthew Donlevey really put a lot of effort into the video lessons included in the course.
That being said, it’s hard for me to recommend that you try out this particular course if you want to get started in forex trading. Mostly because becoming foreign exchange day trader doesn’t have a high level of success. Not everybody who becomes a day trader succeed consistently. Trading just has a lot of risk that is involved with it. One thing I often say is that, if you really want to get into trading, make sure that the money spend on it is money that you’re willing to part with. You’re going spend a decent amount of money when you create a trading account. And depending on your success, that money may never get back to you.
