Sunrider MLM Review: Pyramid Scheme or Scam?

Today we will be reviewing a company called Sunrider. Is Sunrider a pyramid scheme or scam? Find out in this Sunrider MLM review.

If you haven’t heard of Sunrider before, then no need to be surprised. You are part of the majority of the population who has no idea they exist. Sunrider is an MLM after all, and MLM companies are quite obscure because they do little to no advertising.

If you are wondering how MLMs continue making money despite having only a few customers, then that is because they save a lot of money on labor costs. MLM members are not really getting paid to sell the products; they are considered as investors.

MLM members are not really compensated for their efforts despite how they try hard to market said products. Most of the time, they go the extra mile just to make sales. The only pay they get is commissions from how many products they sell.

If you are thinking that this is already bad enough, then wait as I expose more facts about Sunrider and MLMs in general in this review.

Before we go further in this Sunrider MLM review, I will define two terms first: MLM and pyramid scheme.

MLM members make money by selling products and recruiting new members. In pyramid schemes, members could only make money by recruiting people. Pyramid schemes are illegal and banned by the FTC.

As a disclaimer, I am not affiliated with Sunrider in any way.

Hopefully this Sunrider MLM review can help you decide whether you want to sign up for the company or not.

My #1 Recommendation

What is Sunrider?

Sunrider is a multi-level marketing company that sells herb-based products. The company brands itself as one that sells “the finest herbal health and beauty products” worldwide. Pretty bold statement, but I highly doubt that they could back up that claim.

Sunrider was founded by Dr. Tei-Fu Chen in 1982. He is a world-renowned herbalist who believes that the sun is the “source of all life”, therefore basing his brand on it. The company is now operating at 50+ countries worldwide.

Sunrider is currently based in California, United States.

How Do MLMs Work?

Like it or not, MLMs have been in society for so long that eliminating all of them is pretty impossible. They are pretty resilient, and that is evident by how aggressive they recruit people.

Welcome to the section where we talk about why MLMs are the worst and why the FTC should have banned them long ago.

When you encounter a hunbot in the wild, you cannot be surprised anymore. It seems like every social networking site have been infiltrated by hunbots, and there is no stopping them anytime soon.

I use three social networking sites, and I am pretty active in two of them. I lost count of how many times I have come into contact with hunbots, to be honest. And during all those instances, I get so traumatized that I have even thought of not touching social media ever again.

The problem is, social media is now a big part of our lives. From news, employment, entertainment, and online shopping, social media has made its mark. Honestly, most of the time I am on my phone is spent on social media. It is pretty magnetic, really.

Hunbots see social media users as potential customers. Regardless of sex, race, and profession, as long as you are in social media, you are prone to be approached by a hunbot.

That aside, I suggest setting your profile to private so that your inbox remains clean of MLM nonsense. That’s the means I had to resort to just to get these hunbots off my case.

I will talk about how aggressive MLMs are in terms of recruiting in this section in my next reviews, so I suggest reading those as well.

MLMs are a big waste of time and money.

Is Sunrider a Pyramid Scheme?

Since Sunrider members earn money both by selling services and recruiting new members, then it is safe to say that Sunrider is not a pyramid scheme.

However, since Sunrider is an MLM, you should not expect to make a lot of money like what they advertise if you do not plan to recruit a lot of people. Recruiting will earn you more money than selling products, which is why it is encouraged if you are after passive income.

This just makes FM World look like a pyramid scheme in disguise, doesn’t it?

Pyramid scheme vs Multi-level marketing

Like FM World, Peach, and Ruby Ribbon, Sunrider is not a pyramid scheme.

Is Sunrider a Scam?

No, Sunrider is not a scam.

However, I recommend that you watch this video to learn more about some facts that the company may be hiding from you.

When it comes to researching MLMs, I recommend looking at third-party sources. Most posts circulated online are published by the MLMs themselves, so be wary of them and take them with a grain of salt.

I also suggest looking up forums that discuss MLMs. Most forums I found in the internet are active, which means that everyday you can get fresh information from there. Other than that, you can also interact with the people in the forum in order to gain valuable advice and insight.

Another good source of information are testimonies from ex-members. These people know how the companies operate since they have been a part of that particular MLMs before. They can tell you valuable information like how the company treats its members and if the company actually prioritizes sales over recruiting.

How to Make Money from Sunrider

Since Sunrider is an MLM, there are only two major ways to make money with the company. and these are:

  1. Selling products
  2. Recruiting members

There are also available bonuses and benefits that you can qualify for, however, they take a lot of work and effort that not all people are open to doing.

In order to qualify for said benefits, you need to have a downline. That is where the recruiting aspect comes into play. Those people you recruit have to be active, which means they have to keep ordering and buying products.

If you want the passive income that this MLM advertises, you have no choice but to do this. You will be earning commissions from products that your downline buys, and so on. Basically like a pyramid scheme. The more people under you, the more money you make.

Remember that the MLM business model is not sustainable, so as time goes by, you will run out of people to recruit.

MLMs do not really care about how many products you sell. What they care about is how many you buy and how many people you can bring in.

This is sounding more and more like a pyramid scheme, doesn’t it?

How to Join Sunrider

Joining Sunrider is a pretty straightforward process. All you have to do is click this link and read up.

You would have to pay $59 to be a Sunrider Independent Business Owner (IBO). That fee includes a starter kit, which includes the following:

  • Welcome Letter
  • Company Profile
  • Fast Start Blueprint
  • Switch Brands! Flyer
  • Join Brochure
  • Product Catalog
  • Folio
  • Pen
  • Product Samples

That price is actually a lot lower than other MLM companies out there where you are required to shell out hundreds to thousands of dollars. I guess this price could attract more potential members, which is actually a good marketing strategy.

Sunrider sells the products divided in the following categories:

  • Food & Drinks
  • Herbal Nutrition
  • Beauty & Body

How Much Can You Make in Sunrider?

Surprisingly, Sunrider actually publishes an income disclosure statement. I didn’t expect them to actually have one, not to mention putting it up in their website for everyone to see.

Sunrider MLM Review - Sunrider income disclosure

From what I could observe, it seems like the majority of the company belong in the lower ranks, and just look at the figures they make.

The most pathetic earnings are for those starting out in the company (IBO rank). Imagine just earning $153.29 for a year. How can you continue to stay afloat if you are earning that low?

75% of the company, which is the vast majority, struggle to make money. $3,185.28 may seem like a big number, but remember that it is the annual payout. That is still way too low compared to minimum wage.

I just could not fathom how people can still stay in MLMs despite this reality. MLM failure rates are just way too high to be ignored anymore.

Things I Like in Sunrider

Established Company

Sunrider launched its brand in 1982. This means that the company has been around for more than 30 years now. Quite impressive, isn’t it?

Most MLMs do not even see three years before they go out of business. This is because of how unsustainable the MLM business model is.

For Sunrider to still be in business is impressive because this means that they are being managed properly. It looks like it has also built a loyal customer base.

Cheap Startup Cost

It only costs $59 to join Sunrider. Sure, I still stand by not having to pay to become an MLM member, but $59 is very low compared to other MLMs that demand hundreds or even thousands of dollars in membership fees.

I guess this helps people who want to try out the MLM venture without having the fear of losing their investment. They can easily opt out if they realize that this is not the thing for them.

Things I Dislike in Sunrider

Expensive Yet Mediocre Products

Let’s face the harsh reality that not many people are willing to pay a high price for products that they could get cheaper somewhere else.

Sunrider’s products are priced higher than their competitors, which could make selling them a challenge. Sure, some people are willing to give it a try, but I doubt that a lot of them are willing to continue spending a lot for products that are available elsewhere.

Saturated Market

Products sold by Sunrider are readily available in shopping centers, supermarkets, and malls. They do not really have any product that stands out, to be honest. Besides, like I mentioned earlier, products sold by their competitors are priced lower, too.

So, do you think it is easy to compete with more well-known brands that are available everywhere? I don’t think so.

It is an MLM

This is an MLM, so it means that a lot of people definitely failed in this venture. In fact, 99% of people who join MLMs fail to make money, and they do not even earn back their initial investment.

Final Verdict – Sunrider

Before I end this Sunrider MLM review, I would like to share a few more insights that could help you.

The reason why you are here today is because you got curious about what Sunrider is all about. This is why you are here reading this Sunrider MLM review. This means that you got interested with joining an MLM to earn extra money, right?

Let me clarify that I do not recommend MLMs because of how scummy they are towards their members. First off, you would have to meet a monthly quota just to stay in one, which doesn’t make sense.

Another thing that ticks me off is that instead of letting their members get products by order, they have to buy them first using their money. After this, they do not care anymore about what the members do with the products, or if they could even sell them.

Are you sure that you can stay in a company that doesn’t care about its members?

Also, if you know where to look, there are a lot of better opportunities out there.

That’s it for my Sunrider MLM review. Hopefully this Sunrider MLM review helps with your decision.
