Transcribe Anywhere Review – Janet Shaughnessy Scam?

Today, we are going to talk about Transcribe Anywhere. Is it legit? Find out more in this review.

It’s good to learn a bunch of different skills. Especially those that are in demand by a lot of different clients online. If you are in the search for a job that you can do at home, there are often people out there who are in need of a person who can do certain tasks.

That’s why there are courses about things like virtual assistance that have been popping up in the past couple of years. People see that there is a need for certain skillsets. And there are a ton of people who want to earn money but don’t really have the skillsets needed for the job.

Mind you, there are ton of free resources out there on the internet. But it’s sometimes hard to study those resources if they exist on different websites. Having them in one place is often the best way to learn. That’s why sometimes you should opt to pay money for a training program. It’s not required, by any means. But it certainly does help a bit.

I was aware that there was a demand for transcription services. But I didn’t really know a ton of places where you can learn how to become a transcriptionist. That was until I had heard about Transcribe Anywhere. Whenever I learn of a company that offers these kinds of programs, I am always a bit skeptical. Not every program was created the same way. Still, it had me interested to learn more.

Transcribe Anywhere Review

  • Name: Transcribe Anywhere
  • Founder: Janet Shaughnessy
  • Website: https://www.transcribeanywhere.com/
  • Socials: Not available
  • Type: Training program
  • Niche: Transcription services
  • Recommendation: The course is pretty decent but not highly recommended. There are other, more affordable places where you can learn the basics of becoming a transcriptionist. Though I appreciate that lessons being provided by the course are being updated consistently.

Who Is Janet Shaughnessy?

A graphic featuring Transcribe Anywhere founder Janet Shaughnessy

Unfortunately, there is very little information about Janet Shaughnessy out there online. She mostly has a LinkedIn profile and the about page of the Transcribe Anywhere website as a sort of background for her career. Sometimes this kind of things happen. Not all of the people whose companies I write about have very detailed biographies written about them.

It seems that in 2006, Janet founded Zoom Transcription Services. This has nothing with the the video conferencing company. Zoom is a common name for a company, for some reason. There is nothing particularly different with regards to the services that it provides. You can’t really differ from the services side of things when it comes to being a transcriptionist. Most of the time, it’s just pricing.

She noted on the About Us page that she had been running Zoom Transcription for about ten years when she decided to start Transcribe Anywhere. I guess she might have seen an opportunity to help other people become transcriptionists. That’s often how most of these training courses start. There is often a demand for this specific skillset. And Janet has the expertise to teach it to other people.

Aside from that, she apparently also does handcrafted jewelry on the side? And she has been doing it longer than either of her transcription-related companies. Who would’ve thought?

What Is Transcribe Anywhere?

Basically, Transcribe Anywhere is a company that offers training courses with regards to transcription-based skills. They offer two different courses based on the field that you might want to work in.

But before you commit to the full courses, they offer a free mini-course just so that you can have an idea on what the job might entail. People seem to have a notion on what a transcriptionist does. And they’re partially correct. Though there’s a lot more to it than that.

In order to get to the free mini-course, you do need to sign up for an account. Usually, they just ask you for your e-mail address. But, somehow, Transcribe Anywhere also requires you to create a password. It seems that you will need to log into their learning portal in order to access the free course. Be aware that signing up for the course also signs up you to their mailing list. You can just tick the box to not be added.

If the free course made you think that being a transcriptionist to you, you can then sign up for either or both courses. The first course they provide is about general transcription. As they mention early on, this does not require any specialized knowledge. You don’t need to any medical or legal jargon for this particular course.

The course is divided into six modules. Each module varies in length. The first part mostly talks about what this job might entail. And what kind of equipment is commonly used in the field. The second part is more skill-based. Mostly grammar and all of that. The succeeding parts are mostly just practice tests.

What About The Other Course?

The second course that they offer is focused on the basics of legal transcription. This is the course that requires more technical knowledge. You will learn terminology used within the course. So you don’t really have to worry all that much about now knowing a lot of legal jargon.

The course for legal transcription is longer than the general one. And it makes sense. Legal transcription is a bit more involved compared to general transcription. There are certain ways of transcribing that may not be usable in most cases. But it seems that the course will go through all of that.

As for the cost of either courses, there are a few different payment methods that they provide. The general transcription course costs a one-time payment of $497. But you can also pay a four-month installment plan worth $125. The legal transcription course, on the other hand, costs a one-time payment worth $597, with a four-month plan worth $150.

They also offer a bundle for both courses worth $797 upfront. There’s also the installment plan worth $200 a month. There’s also another bundle that includes actual equipment for transcription, e-mail support, access to a live coaching session and a pre-designed website. That bundle costs $2,997. There’s also the installment plan worth $750.

We’re down to the final stretch of the review. But first, why not check out this recommendation?

Final Verdict – Transcribe Anywhere Review

I can’t say that I highly recommend Transcribe Anywhere. You should definitely try out their free course, if you like. But it’s not really something that I would recommend to everyone. Transcription services requires a lot of skill and also loads of equipment. When I had seen the payment plan for the courses, I was initially confused. But it makes a bit of sense that they would include equipment in the second bundle.

Is it justified to pay $2,000 more for most of the other inclusions when a standard transcription foot pedal costs about $100? Not really. So you’re better off only paying for the bundle if you decide to actually go through with the course.

If you really want to learn the basics of becoming a transcriptionist, there are a lot of more affordable alternatives out there. Perhaps a community college also offers a course in transcribing. There are a lot of places you can learn for cheaper. Sometimes people can’t afford to put a lot of money in courses like this one. While Transcribe Anywhere does offer installment plans, it’s still a bit costly for a lot of people.

Even then, it’s not guaranteed that you will find work immediately after studying either courses. There is a demand for that kind of service. But sometimes it’s far in between. Some also choose to hire people who live within the same country they are based in. So it’s kind of hard to recoup the money that you paid for the course.

What I do appreciate about Transcribe Anywhere is that they try their hardest to be as up-to-date in their material as they can. Some of the training courses that I’ve review before rarely do that. So it’s at least nice that what you’re learning from Janet is updated.
