It’s always a good thing to know a bunch of different skills. You probably already know the saying, “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one.” If you haven’t see the full saying before, then there you go. But back to the topic at hand. It is great for somebody to have knowledge in a bunch of different field. Sure, knowing one very specific skillset is great if you’re going into a very specific industry. But knowing a lot of different things is better in the long run. As long as you understand the concepts of what you’re doing, you’re gonna be fine.
Even with something like computer programming, there are lot of different programming languages in use throughout the entire technology industry. A lot of the things that we interact with nowadays, like our phones or computers, often uses programming language in order to work. Because computer programming has been a big deal within the past decade or so, there are people who want to get into the industry but don’t really have the skills to do so.
It’s not much of a surprise when a lot of people have gained an interesting in being a programmer or a developer because there is a potential to earn a decent salary from it. People are always going to be interested in something if they know there’s a potential to earn money from it. That’s just how it is. The main problem that a lot of these people struggle with is where exactly can you learn about programming without having to go to college for it. Luckily, there have been a number of different paid platforms that offer courses depending on what kind of career path in the tech industry you want to get into. One of them is ZTM Academy from Zero to Mastery.

- Recommendation: While there is a potential to be earning a decent amount of money from being a programmer, it’s not something that I would recommend everyone to get into. Programming takes a whole lot of time to build up the skills necessary for it. ZTM Academy does provide one of the more comprehensive computer programming courses out there that you could find.
Who Is Andrei Neagoie?
Andrei Neagoie is the founder of Zero to Mastery and the lead instructor of Zero to Mastery’s ZTM Academy. It was kind of eye-opening, in a way, when I was going through some of the job history he listed on his LinkedIn account. I hadn’t expect how much he has done throughout his career. Though you wouldn’t have thought that this was the career that Andrei was headed.
In college, Andrei had graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and psychology. After he had graduated, he was hired as a foreign language teacher by the Japanese government. He worked in Japan for a year before heading back to Canada. One of his first jobs back was as a professional coach for an upscale tennis club. It seemed that he did well enough to get promoted as club manager.
Eventually, Andrei went on to work as a business development manager for a travel company based in Toronto that basically helped graduating high school students travel to different countries. It seemed that he stayed within the travel industry for the next few years. In 2013, he co-founded a company that organizes an adventure race that included people with disabilities. Andrei had a very active lifestyle and the companies he co-founded at that point reflected it.
It was in 2015 that Andrei started having jobs in the local tech industry. He was still doing travel-related work during that time. But most of his latter work was in the software development space. It didn’t seem that Andrei’s entrepreneurial instincts really stopped. In 2017, Andrei poured everything he knew about computer programming into a company that helped other people reach the place that he was. And that’s where Zero to Mastery was born.

What Is ZTM Academy?
ZTM Academy is an online learning platform where you can learn almost everything you can know with regards to computer programming. There’s nothing really much else to it, honestly. Though, I am kind of underselling it a bit. But, in essence, that’s pretty much what it is.
What’s good about ZTM Academy is that a lot of their lessons are bundled under different categories. And those categories are often career paths that you could take as a computer programmer. A lot of similar online platforms just give you access to any kind course for any kind of programming language. You’re basically just free to choose what you want to learn. And that’s it. While it’s good to have that kind of flexibility, it’s not really good when you’re planning to get into a specific role for whatever company you want to get into.
I do think that is one of positives to how ZTM Academy is structured. You still get the flexibility to choose whatever course you want to learn on your own time. But they give you filters so that you know exactly what kind of things you may need learn to fully succeed in that job. You kind of see that ZTM Academy is focused specifically for people who want to work for a specific role in a company like Apple or Google.
(This is an aside. But with the recent layoffs happening at the time that I am writing this, it does seem that a lot of the larger tech companies are trying to lessen certain roles for various departments. I’m going to expound on this during the final verdict. But focusing to get into the larger companies doesn’t seem as feasible as it was in the last couple of years. That’s not to say other companies aren’t looking to hire people that have the certain skillset and knowledge that they’re looking for. It’s just that gunning for a job at one of the more prominent tech companies presents its own type of risk.)
What Exactly Are You Getting From ZTM Academy?
When you sign up for ZTM Academy, you pretty much get unlimited access to all of the courses that they offer. This is pretty much standard for any kind of online learning platform. There are three different ways that you could pay to get access. They have a one-time payment that costs $999, an annual plan that costs $279 a year, and a monthly plan that costs $39 a month. All of the payment structures they have gives you the same amount of access to any of the available courses that they offer.
You pretty much get unlimited access to any of the content that they offer like their courses, workshops and career paths. Aside from that, you get access to their exclusive community on Discord and LinkedIn. There are also live monthly sessions with the instructors that you get access to. It does not deviate all that much with some of the other inclusions outside of the actual courses. Though, it is interesting to see them utilize LinkedIn’s social platform.

Like I mentioned in one of the other sections of the review, it’s a bit more difficult nowadays for a lot of people to get hired by some of the more prominent tech companies. Just because there have been some layoffs from the major tech companies doesn’t mean that there aren’t other companies looking for people in similar roles. It’s just that you can’t really assume that you’ll get hired by your dream workplace.
All of that aside, ZTM Academy is one of the more well-thought online training platforms within this particular space. While it’s not something I highly recommend for everybody to try out, there’s definitely a lot going for it when it comes to learning how to code in various programming languages. The pricing for its annual and monthly plans seems a bit more affordable compared to some of the other training programs that I’ve reviewed for other niches.
